I shot the following on a tripod in aperture priority mode.

f/4

f/4 (closer to guitar and chair moved farther back)

f/22 (focused on foreground/guitar)

f/22 (focused on background/chair)

 

I prefer images with a larger aperture. I like the depth of field that that it creates and how it makes the image look less flat. 

I also noticed little difference between images shot in f/22 despite having focused the lens on different subjects at different distances from one another. 

The blur caused from depth of field  in the larger aperture shots was also more intense when the foreground subject was closer to the lens/the background subject was farther away from it.
